He was the son of Joseph Drake who was born in Sussex Co., NJ, and Sarah J. (Vittum) Drake, a native of New Hampshire. He was educated in the public schools of Prairie City, and learned the jewelry business with S. P. Tobie of Prairie City, and J. M. Fox of Canton. He died on Feb. 2, 1893 He was married Nov. 24, 1875 to Iva M. Allen who was born in West Canaan, Madison County, Ohio, the daughter of John B. and Sarah (Dunlap) Allen, born Ohio. John B. Allen was for 30 years connected to the lumber industry. They had one child, Edith Allen Drake, born in Canton April 21, 1882. She graduated from Canton High School in 1898, and Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, class of 1903. At present she is a teacher at Canton High School.
